En Public is a live record by notorious French rock band Noir Désir. It was the first release by the band after Noir Désir's frontman, Bertrand Cantat, was incarcerated for four years after he drunkenly beat up his actress/girlfriend Marie Trentingnan, who died following the incident. The material for En Public was recorded several years before the release, when the band toured in support of its Des Visages des Figures album, released in 2001. The live album went straight to number one in France.

French alternative band Noir Désir formed in the mid-'80s, comprised of Bertrand Cantat, Serge Teyssot-Gay, Frédéric Vidalenc, and Denis Barthe. The group's first EP was released in 1987. Two years later, Noir Désir released their debut full-length, Veuillez Rendre l'Âme (À Qui Elle Appartient). By second album Du Ciment Sous les Plaines (1990), the band's harder, more punk-inspired elements began to come to the fore, and the progression remained on 1992's Tostaky. The band continued...
