Album Review

Scottish folk, ambient, hard rock, and pop. These are just four ways of describing what went into the making of this album. Paul Mounsey does a brilliant job of incorporating these diverse components into one unifying body of work. Originally from Scotland, his affinity for his native country's music is obvious, as the repeated samplings of legendary Gaelic singer Flora MacNeil would indicate. Couple that with his band of Brazilian musicians and his fascination with sampling and programming, and a truly unique product is created. Mounsey's own keyboard style is somewhat reminiscent of Michael Hoenig, but when combined with heavy metal or melodic, anthem-laden guitar riffs (a la Mike Oldfield) along with additional folk music interludes, you've got the future of progressive rock.
