Customer Reviews
Just get this. Don't think about it. Just get it. Genius all the way through.
An extraordinary album. Still jaw-dropping after all these years. Ploughing the post-psychedelia post-Barrett 'darkness at the heart of a Victorian country garden' sort of furrow. But I don't think anything before or after really touches this. Selling England... attempted something similar but they'd become a lot more polished by then and it doesn't match the quirkiness, absurdity and sheer originality of this. And to think that they nearly gave up at this point. It's rather a shame that they all seem to disparage this period. I guess they feel they've got better at what they do, which is true in a technical sense. But something was lost along the way... Gabriel's genius has certainly never been quite so untamed as it is here.
Hmmmm
It's quirky sure enough. But as an album it's virtually unlistenable (with one or two exceptions) in 2011....Maybe it's time will come again, but somehow I doubt it.
Unlistenable ? hardly….
This is an exceptional album, how anyone could say that its unlistenable in 2011 is beyond me ? this is real talent and musical creativity unlike the rubbish we have got today which I consider unlistenable. The musical box sends shivers down my spine every time, Love the story telling in these songs. A real shame theres nothing like this now a days !
