A unique approach
With this disc saxophonist Mick Foster and pianist Yeu-Meng Chan draw together a diverse and yet coherent selection of pieces, and tackle them with great individuality and panache.
Mick Foster has clearly studied the saxophone from a classical perspective, but with a strong jazz flavour to his sound which is particularly evident in the Schulhoff, where a very stylistically appropriate vibrato and feel is in evidence.
Soprano, alto and baritone saxes are featured throughout the disc, and great care has been taken with the recording/mixing to bring a most enjoyable disc, with fine performances from Foster and Chan.
The highlight of the disc for me are the October Dances, written by Mick Foster. These demonstrate further Mick's clear concept and approach to music as well as the saxophone, and are very strong indeed.
Highly recommended - a disc that breaks away from well trodden paths.
