Technicolour music

Best album from one of the great lost bands. Once Around The World is a wonderful trip. All pretty colours, twisting yet danceable rhythms-prog to tap your foot to. For the un-initiated a blend of Genesis textures, Allan Holdsworth guitar playing, Weather Report chords, Cardiacs madness and Cozy Powell on drums. Whilst It Bites music was technically impressive it was never anything other than easy and fun to listen to on account of the the inviting listening surface-the textures and soundscapes frequently cinematic courtesy of John Beck's keyboard work-traces of Tony Banks here.Unreserved recommendation for lovers of intelligent rock.

Compact brilliance

Over 20 years old, this album still shines as one of the best of the stream lined progressive mould. Hardly a note is wasted, and witness musicians at the peak of their youthful talent. The guitar work of Dunnery here remains spell binding, and songs like Black December show how the group sounded so focused, so compact in their writing. Longer pieces like the title track rarely falter though, an ending which can match anything of better known groups like Genesis. It Bites here don't try to be masters of their genre or the best - they simply left a wonderful album which still glows powerfully with every listen.

Outstanding

Undoubtedly the finest thing ever to come out of Cumbria, It Bites 2nd album was their masterpiece. From the immediate rock of Midnight to the 15 min prog-rock extravaganza of Once Around The World, Bites never put a foot wrong throughout. The fact they never made it huge was a travesty, but the fact that so many fans rabidly consume the outputs of departed lead-singer Francis Dunner and the recently reformed but Dunnery-less It Bites, shows the impact this band had on so many people's lives. And this is them at their creative peak. For me, I'd trade The Old Man And The Angel for virtually any song released in the last 25 years

A British band with blues and metal aspirations, but also a strong art rock tendency (thanks in part to producer Steve Hillage), It Bites were formed in the mid-'80s by vocalist and guitarist Francis Dunnery, bassist Dick Nolan, drummer Bob Dalton, and keyboard player John Beck. The group debuted with the single "All in Red," then signed to Virgin for its first album, The Big Lad in the Windmill. Second single "Calling All Heroes" hit number six on the British charts, and though It Bites never reentered...
