Buy Polar

At first I thought they sounded a bit like Portico Quartet but there's much more movement here and a lot more experimentation and melodic expression. There's a good tempo range, moving to and fro between moods, for example; soft='The Love Didn't Go Anywhere'; hard='Bump'.

A couple of tracks that certainly meander playfully back and forth between the abstract, 'Drunken Pharoah' and 'Scream', but over all this is a well crafted, interesting and entertaining album that I'd easily recommend to anyone interested in modern jazz. This is my first taste of Polar bear and I'm keen to see what else they've done.

Standouts for me?: Drunken Pharoah, Bap Bap Bap, Finding Our Feet, Bump, Scream.
