Wonderful album
Pillows and Prayers back in vinyl 1982 cost something like 99p. It's just brilliant. It fits together - strange for a compilation album by lots of people at the time you hadn't heard of - as one piece of work, one voice almost. And it spoke to me back then because it didn't strive to fit into any kind of label - punk, indie, what have you. Or mabye it did but I didn't pick it up? I think there's a delight in words in this album, you hear that in Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt's pieces, and the poetry of Quentin Crisp and Attila the Stockbroker, and really in all the songs. I think it's brilliant. Enough said.
Lost Era
While the overall impact of this music may not have registered greatly on the popular culture of the early eighties, there are gems contained in this album that are well worth a listen, if nothing else get Compulsion and understand that while Gore tried his best the Crow sings sweeter.
the best 99p i ever spent
i have worn the vinyl out on this record it has been played so much... what great tunes... so glad to have it on my i pod now.. relive the memories of the early 80s..... top tracks are the passage and felt
