iTunes Review

With a growing indie-rock fan base that includes O.C. character Seth Cohen, Death Cab for Cutie finally moves up to a major label with Plans, their fifth full-length release. It’s both the modestly forward-looking effort past listeners would have expected and a bold leap forward. Ben Gibbard again sings for those with aching hearts, a bit puzzled about where they find their young lives going, but this time from a more resolutely grown-up position. Like R.E.M. before them, Death Cab is building an impressive catalog from diverse blocks that click into place nicely.

just when you thought music was getting predictable

When you first catch the opening few bars of Marching Bands of Manhattan, assuming you have not been put off by the name of the band, you immediatly feel uplifted. It is a slow cooker of a track, that builds in layer after layer of atmospheric melody. Once you start the journey, you will not let go. In today's layer less world of pop, DCFC breath life to songs that catch you from the first cord, then having hooked you, start to reveal the layers underneath. "Plans" is by far their best work to date, which may sound a little opinionated to those who have heard the previous work, "Transatlanicism", but take a leap of faith and discover that not all pop is bland.

Start Again

A great new album and I really like the bonus track 'Start Again', however I would like to say that this track was not written by Chris and Ben as stated on iTunes. It's actually a Teenage Fanclub cover from their album 'Songs From Northern Britain'.

Another brilliant album from Death Cab!

It's not often that I can listen to an album on repeat all day, every day, but with "Plans" I can do just that. I can't pick a favourite song, they all are just so amazing! If you're not familiar with Death Cab, this is the album to download and if you like it (which I'm sure you will), try "Transatlanticism" and some of Ben Gibbard's earlier stuff (either All-Time Quarterback or The Postal Service.)

Biography

Formed: 1997 in Bellingham, WA

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

Death Cab for Cutie's rise from small-time solo project to Grammy-nominated rock band is one of indie rock's greatest success stories. Launched in the bayside college town of Bellingham, Washington, the group was originally a side project for singer/guitarist Ben Gibbard, an engineering student at Western Washington University who split his time between school and music. Taking a break from his local power pop band, Pinwheel, Gibbard began recording an album's worth of solo material during the summer...
