Album Review

It seems like with each successive release, DevilDriver keep turning up the dial of heaviness. And on their fourth studio album overall, 2009's Pray for Villains, the group continues plowing forward with this approach. Screams, growls, raging riffs, and impressively airtight drumming are all crucial ingredients to the DevilDriver metallic recipe. Produced by former Machine Head guitarist Logan Mader, Pray for Villains hits you like a ton of bricks from the get-go with the album-opening title track (and leadoff single) and never lets up, as evidenced by such brutal tracks as "Fate Stepped In" and "Forgiveness Is a Six Gun," among other dangerous ditties. Pray for Villains confirms once and for all that Dez Fafara has totally shed the nu-metal schtick of Coal Chamber for the 100 percent pure headbanging fury of DevilDriver. Best album by DevilDriver yet.

It seems that they have strayed from their previous style with this new album and hit upon something new that will certainly propel this band further. On their previous albums the music was a seemingly mindless sprawl however with this release they have added more melody and have not lost their talent for brutality. This album maintains the bands technique for a heavy and powerful sound whilst adding technical elements and inspiring melodies, in perfect proportion. A brilliant album overall in my opinion and I would not have expected this sound from a band i frequently denounced after being disapointed by their first albums. Well done DevilDriver for a hectic new album a must purchase for any self-respecting metal fan.

Good, bloody good!

This is an amazing album. This album seriously packs a punch, headbutt and a flying f***king side-kick! If you lke your music heavy, melodic and brutal then you will be more than satisfied. Trust me. Go on treat yourself, I did and I'm bloody loving it!

Following the dissolution of Marilyn Manson/Korn-aping, nu-metal also-rans Coal Chamber, vocalist Dez Fafara hooked up with guitarists Evans Pitts and Jeffrey Kendrick, bassist Jon Miller, and drummer John Boecklin to form DevilDriver — a rather more extreme band dedicated to the subsequent hardcore-meets-death metal trends. Signed to Roadrunner like Fafara's previous group, DevilDriver released their eponymous debut to mixed reviews in 2003, and then its even less appreciated follow-up, The...
