Proof of Life
I have seen Katey 'live' four or five times and she is amazing whether playing solo or with her band. Her voice is incredibly rich and powerful and that really comes across here. The songs are beautifully crafted, the melodies are haunting, and the lyrics all tell a story or make a point without ramming it down your throat. I don't think Katey's got anything to prove but she's definitely got something to say. The band are fantastic - the cello makes your hair stand on end and seems to come from deep down in the earth; the violinist is Graham Smith from String Driven Thing and Van der Graaf Generator so enough said there! The lead guitar on 'Hunger' is beautifully sinister if there is such a thing! The songs are all very powerful but for me, 'Is it love' is exquisite - it's been the background track in my head for the last week! I hope this album is the first one of many from Katey Brooks.
Masterpiece
This album is now in my top 5 albums of all time. I love every track. What a voice - so unexpected!! Exquisite.
