If you like this...
Try listening to anything by Dirty Three, although not all their releases are on iTunes the seminal "Ocean Songs" is. Recently at the Barbican in London we were lucky to see Warren and the rest of Dirty Three become for one night only become Dirty Four, with Cave on guest piano, playing the whole album as part of All Tomorrows Parties ATP festival. The core of the Three music sound is happy desperation, mild amusment and a smirk at the uneventfullness of landscape. They have captured so much of what modern Australia abandoned. Center to this loss is the meaning of a single person, not having to be a together, a common group for common good. Warren and the band mine the outback to produce the emotion of covert realism and soften it to a kettel drum or wince out teardrops in his climatic violin. Enjoy every second of their uncharted music. Its is a lot about the reaction of life in the face of mild adversity. Like he said at the gig "this song is about a day when...going down the shop for milk or what ever and you know even the nice old lady serving you thinks you are a C**t , well you just have days like that". Don't we indeed.
Beautiful and haunting
Beautifully haunting melodies, strange organic sound-scapes and an overall feeling of desolate woe permeate this brilliant album from Nick Cave and Warren Ellis. This is music that you feel. Buy this album and see the film, they're both masterful creations.
