iTunes Review
Devo began as a group with a mission: to devolve humanity out of its mediocrity and back into happy primitivism. Mark Mothersbaugh, Jerry Casale, and their co-conspirators may not have succeeded, but they did manage to release one of the most weirdly enthralling debuts in rock history. Tapping into the industrial heritage of their native Akron, Ohio, they helped pioneer techno-rock by retooling the Stones' "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" into an anthem of robotic frustration. But more, they laid out an alternative to American normalcy in such jittery originals as "Mongoloid," "Uncontrollable Urge", and the utterly life-changing "Jocko Homo." These delightfully subversive tracks will have your ancestral tail sprouting in no time. And if you can't twitch to tunes like "Gut Feeling (Slap Your Mammy)," you've probably devolved back to the amoeba state.
Customer Reviews
Recognise the greatness..
Devo got there first...there is more angst and energy in one of their songs than most bands manage in a career. Check out Uncontrollable Urge and I defy you not to get agitated..you may not like it, but you will respond!
An excellent debut album.
I think what has been said in the iTunes store review is fundamentally wrong. Devo have observed thet humankind are de-evolving or regressing into primative ways, this is bourne out (according to Devo) by the state of the world today. This album is superb, there simply isn't a bad track on it.
the perfect debut
definately in top 5 albums ever
