Superb CD

Having remembered Madonna since the early 80's, this is another master peice from the Pop Queen of Legends. Some good mantra vibes on this CD - a bit of something for everyone to enjoy. The older she gets the better she becomes....Keep it going Madge (Luv yer)

Breathtaking

This will be remembered as Madonna's seminal work, and her greatest re-invention yet. This album shows Madonna at the very top of her game. Prior to the release, we saw a small hint of what was coming with the collaberation with Massive Attack on "I Want You", from her ballads collection, "Something to Remember" and also with Bjork and Nelle Hooper on "Bedtime Story" the title track from her last studio album. "Ray of Light" fuses techno, break-beats and electro worked with Eastern flavours. Her voice is breathtaking, after the classical training for the "Evita" film and soundtrack, and her writing is at her best. The paring with William Orbit is inspired and delivers one of the best albums of the decade. In "Ray of Light", Madonna truely becomes an album artist, and interestingly its the album cuts that work best: "Skin", "Swim", "Sky Fits Heaven" are all acomplished and complex pieces of work. Even some of the singles such as "Drowned World", "Nothing Really Matters" and "Power of Good-bye" work best when listening to this record as whole - such is the overall fluidity of Ray of Light. A planned remix album in 1999 titled "Veronica Electronica" would have been a nice way to bring together some of the many varied remixes and to include the later recorded and Orbit produced "Beautiful Stranger". However 8 years on, Ray of Light is a masterpiece in every sense.

The Best

This is Madonna's best album even after seven years. Lookin' great on the cover. Dark and confessional. Lyrically is outstanding and sonically it was a right decision to embrace electronica and dance. There is techno Sky fits heaven and Skin (phychadelic) to great melodic ballads Power of goodbye and Frozen. Is hard to peek favourites here Power of, Nothing really (great house tune), Swim, Sky fits and my favourite Drowned World has to be her best song lyrically over mild drum and bass beats. This is a great album even if you are not a Madonna fan. Indeed still the queen!

After stars reach a certain point, it's easy to forget what they became famous for and concentrate solely on their personas. Madonna is such a star. Madonna rocketed to stardom so quickly in 1984 that it obscured most of her musical virtues. Appreciating her music became even more difficult as the decade wore on, as discussing her lifestyle became more common than discussing her music. However, one of Madonna's greatest achievements is how she manipulated the media and the public...
