Brilliant
Forget that this is a classical music CD. It's a brilliant CD FULL STOP!
Great debut -
James Rhodes is the real thing: a finished pianist who can command glowing reviews from the mainstream classical press but has a style that appeals to everyone. The music on this album offers a great introduction to different styles of classical music. James is equally at home in the playful 5th Suite of Bach and the dreamy, romantic fervour of Chopin's hypnotic 4thg Ballade. He pulls out the stops in Bach's mighty Chaconne (in the famous Busoni transcription) and proves a real poet in dialogues of the compact Beethoven op 90 sonata. With an album title so glaringly in-your-face, James transcends what could have been a really tacky CD with some poetic and sensuous pianism!

This has to be the 'must have' album for 2009. If you only download one album this year, make it this one! Stunning is all I can say.
