Already a well-established DJ to the stars, Mark Ronson has also proved himself to be one of the most compelling producers working today, unafraid to mix multiple genres, bringing together hip-hop, rock, funk, pop, and retro soul. Perhaps best known for his GRAMMY-winning work with UK songstress Amy Winehouse, he has also recorded extensively with MCs Saigon, Rhymefest, and Wale, among many others. On his third solo album, he adds a distinct '80s vibe to the mix, with lots of big synth lines running throughout the punchy drums and jangling guitars, while the jaw-dropping guest list includes old- school icons Boy George ("Somebody to Love Me") and Simon LeBon ("Record Collection"), crooner extraordinaire D'Angelo ("Glass Mountain Trust"), and Q-Tip on the single "Bang Bang Bang". Relentlessly upbeat, unpredictable, and easy to like, this is ideal 21st-century party music. Other features come from Ghostface, Spank Rock, Kyle Falconer, and the London Gay Men's Chorus.

Deeply banal homage to 80s dance
This album was earmarked as a must buy for me since Bang Bang Bang came out. Sadly this lead single and Bike Song are the only highlights in an album that is a pastiche of the 80s dance scene. Unfortunately for Ronson it has been done a whole lot better before. While Version was blighted by an over employment of horns, this album is restricted by it's repetitive use of drum machines. The guest stars are never really stretched with Boy George and Simon Lebon simply mumbling their way through songs that lack an emotional engagement with the listener. Mark Ronson never seems the warmest bloke but he certainly has an eye for style. That comes across in album that is rather cold and clinical in searching to be "avant garde".
