Firstly, this soundtrack is amazing. Secondly (and more importantly), DON'T listen to Track 16 - 'Far Away' - until you've reached Mexico in-game. Without spoiling the story, getting Mexico unlocked involves a mission where you cross the river. Once across, a Horse will be provided for you. STAY ON THIS HORSE otherwise the song won't play, and trust me, if at the moment you reach Mexico it just happens to be late-afternoon game-wise (nice setting Sun etc), you'll be in for one of the best and more emotional moments you've ever experienced in a video game.
Quick soundtrack review:
It's fantastic. For years now, Rockstar have almost overused the 'licensed' soundtracks in games like Grand Theft Auto, so to hear a soundtrack of this quality in a game as astonishing as Red Dead, is a highly intoxicating experience. I simply couldn't recommend this enough, 5 stars. So good, that I chose to write a review of something else other than Steely Dan!
Amazing!!
Just recently bought the game and decided to buy the soundtrack aswell. It's one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard. Every song is unique and is worth every penny of the £7.99
Words, literally, cannot describe it
This soundtrack is probably one of the best I have ever had the pleasure of listening to.
Every single song just flows so well and each and every one brings up a different emotion, and each transports you to the Old West in a way no words could. Forget listening to the sound of rain or jungle, listen to this at night in bed and you'll honestly feel like your riding a horse in the wild west. I know it sounds farfetched, but this is a truly magnificent and immersive soundtrack the likes Rockstar have never produced before. Each song just gives a whole new image in your mind of what's happening and its just amazing. And I can honestly say this is the way to listen to it. Playing the game and hearing it is amazing too, but you don't really appreciate the quality of the music until you listen to it in its pure, unhindered form.
Hats off to the composers and artists, this is one of the finest soundtracks to grace our ears.
You would be doing yourself an injustice by not buying it, even if you haven't played the game or don't even intend to, this is an essential purchase.
