Customer Reviews

Awesomely crafted noise rock.

After several listens, one can't deny the apoplectic power of Weekend's debut album Sports. It's abrasive and ecclectic garage rock sound provided aural bliss amongst several other new bands that seem to be moving away from grass roots melodies and structures. The knowledge that somewhere, between the layers of glisteningly distorted guitar, dustbin lid drums and delay drenched unfathomable vocals, lay a pop/rock soung of astounding beatuy was awe-inspiring. Weekend truly hit the mark with the unconcerned sound of that album. The End Times (radio edit) single served only to freshen up the dynamics of such a sound in order to make it radio playable. This EP continues that vain, and serves only to drench the appetite for reverb/distortion laden guitar work and driving, metronomic basslines even more, prior to the next Weekend LP due in early 2012. This EP achieves a range of sounds some bands wouldn't dare to, or perhaps couldn't attempt to, achieve in a full album. Weekend's only concern should be in not further watering down or cleaning up the sound they achieved in that first album, though this EP encourages that they are not about to. An excellent piece of indie/noise rock/garage/shoegaze/post-punk music. Highly recommended.

Biography

Formed: 2009 in San Francisco , CA

Formed in 2009 by Shaun Durkan (bass/vocals), Kevin Johnson (guitar), and Abe Pedroza (drums), Weekend quickly made a name for themselves with their post-punk-shoved-through-a-shoegaze-filter sound. The trio’s pounding bass'n'drum rhythms lay the groundwork for Johnson’s wall of reverb-drenched guitar noise, giving...
