genius album.an absolute classic.eno and byrne are the perfect match like scotch on the rocks.u cant pigeon hole this into a genre.totally wicked music,punky,funky,ambient,exhilarating and relaxing.although i really dont know why they bother with the extra tracks,surely they were not included in the original with good reason.
Untouched
This album is absolutely essential listening- it was born out of the experimental sessions of Eno/Byrne's 'My Life in the Bush of Ghosts', and can be read as a sort of continuation of that projects' groundbreaking ethic. The fact that 'Remain in Light' was released first was to do with record label politics- it was finished second. At the time Eno/Byrne were heavily into experimenting with music from cultures other than their own, and on 'Remain in Light' this is illustrated particularly by the impact of Nigerian music on the sound, specifically the music of Fela Kuti, and in particular the drummer of Fela's Africa 70, Tony Allen. This rhythmic sensibility combined with Adrian Belew's ground breaking guitar playing, Eno's 25-year-ahead-of-his-time cut/repeat effects, Byrne's songwriting and great playing from the rest of the often underrated Talking Heads combine to produce a truly stunning album, that will never be surpassed sonically or in terms of the impact it has had on all subsequent music.
