Zabiela Rides Again!

I couldn't wait for this album to come out. Admittedly, I was already a big fan of his first Masters Series last year, especially the first disc, so my anticipation was heightened when James announced in his pre-release blurb that both mixes on this latest volume would be more along these lines. And I'm now pleased to report he hasn't disappointed.

So, whilst this isn't a reflection of James Zabiela the club DJ, it is a demonstration of one of the worlds most creative dance minds. The exclusive voice overs and field recordings are all once again in attendance, blended to perfect effect alongside Zabiela's impeccable musical selection. The result is a beautifully eclectic listen, which I suspect will stand the test of time really well.

James has a legion of loyal supporters so this album will quickly find a home with many although it truly deserves to find a wider audience. It may not be as obvious as the likes of Costes or Buddha Bar, but I strongly urge fans of either series to check this out. Simply put, it's a must for anyone with a passing interest in electronic music!

Mostly fantastic

On first few listens this appears to be a really nice selection of tracks, with a similar feel to the fabulous first disc of Nick Warren's GU30: Paris, or any of the recent commercially released M.A.N.D.Y mixes. Sadly, for me, the spoken word voiceovers are a cringe-inducing distraction that will prevent the longevity this mix would otherwise have enjoyed.

4 stars without the spoken word stuff.

Awesome!

The best thing I've heard in a long while... Not what I was expecting having experienced James Zabielas' notoriously epic techno/ breaks/house dj sets but truly inspiring and in parts, absolutely breathtaking.

Surprisingly, the first half of the continous mix ('cd one') is in places as slow as about 80bpm with lush soundscapes and epic melodies. Although this isnt what i expected from a club djs' compilation, Zabielas' musical influences and style are still remarkably apparent and the whole mix flows beautifully into the more expected darker, ravey, club vibes later on.
His technical precision and ability, along with remarkable talent for track selection and placement, shine throughout, to make this a must-have for any fan of electronica.
