Album Review

Even if you've never heard of a band, it's kind of nice to hear that they do special things for their rather small fan base. A good fan club, official bootlegs, etc. are what turn a small, under-the-radar band's fans into thankful and devoted supporters. For All About Eve fans, it was a small pain to have to hunt down on eBay and import record dealer websites all of the B-sides that were featured on their excruciatingly hard-to-find pre-Mercury output. Enter ex-guitarist Tim Bricheno to assuage those who had run out of luck. He has put together literally everything from those first few singles, collecting B-sides, demos, and extended mixes that have been out of print and out of sight for years. All of the tracks here are solid, from the first single, "D for Desire," all the way through the sorta tongue-in-cheek cover of Cliff Richard's "Devil Woman." Outside of the music, the quality of which speaks for itself, the only thing really to note is that this is a collector's disc. Those who are just beginning to explore the work of the Eves would do best to hunt down the official full-lengths, but if this is all they can find, it's a safe bet and a quality introduction.

Thank you Tim, Thank you iTunes

I was very lucky in that i had all these tracks as original releases - even the first 12" ep and the Zig Zag compilation LP with Suppertime on it; but having glanced at prices on e-bay i was always reluctant to overplay them - and had struggled with digital transfer...so this has come along and made my day!

Its nice to hear all these tracks in a digital medium, and yes they still take me back to first watching them with a reel to reel cassette tape for their drum tracks - but they were still very good.

Best tracks have to be the two flipside tracks from In the Clouds - Love leads Nowhere and End of the Day - but as a whole it has stood the test of over 20 years pretty well.

Biography

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '80s, '90s

All About Eve arose out of Britain's '80s goth rock scene with a unique, folk-rock-influenced take on the style. Former journalist and Gene Loves Jezebel bassist Julianne Regan was encouraged by members of the Mission U.K. to form her own band after singing background vocals on some of their material. She assembled former Aemotti Crii members Tim Bricheno (guitar) and Andy Cousin (bass), plus drummer Mark Price, and sprinkled her songs with references to hippiedom and white-magic mysticism.
