Estoy a las mil maravillas .......
The artistry and selection are excellent. Performed with authority and gentleness where required. Wonderful.
Formidable, but the best is yet to come.
Yang's technical mastery is unquestionable. However I do not feel that she is at home in the idiom of many of these pieces. That one can play quickly does not mean that one has to, and some of her interpretations of Spanish pieces in particular do not sit well with the expectations of this listener. She seems much more at home in pieces which have in either an ostensibly 'eastern' idiom, such as 'Sakura' or popular such as 'Michelle'. She unquestionably has a great career in front of her and if her grasp of western idioms and artistry increase to match her formidable talent then she will be a phenomenon indeed.
