Bullion taps into pscyedelic rock mashed with J Dilla style dope beats with the eerie vocals of Canada's famous indigenous folkie Buffy Sainte-Marie singing Leonard Cohen "Bells" sounding like Beth Gibbons from Portishead at her most spooky. Then segues into a short interlude sampling early 80s campy space diva Klaus Nomi to sustain the otherwordly atmosphere. Then comes a weird snippet of a hungarian Kovacs Kati's "Csendszoro"?? which sounds like it comes from a David Lynch movie dream sequence then back to chunky spliced late 60s guitar chords with a played backwards warped feel so favoured by Beatles producer George Martin to give it that current fresh wonky vibe. This Acton DJ knows how to use his crate diggin' to create a nice fuzzy warped track that is catchy as it is glitchy. Too hipster cool for mainsteam attention but with the playful original sampling of the Avalanches and if you like the sound of Jefferson Airplane/Portishead/J Dilla trippin' over Ravi Shankar with a Go!Team chorus of "la la las" then this is for you!!!

Great Release But Not His Best

Compared to others peddling the "wonky beats" flow that's been building up for the best part of a decade, Bullion truly stands out. Unique ear for a sample, and a vision that never sacrifices musical flow for the sake of being rhythmically jagged.

This release, while not being as good overall as his last release "Young Heartache", is still required listening. Say Goodbye To What gives us a glimpse of what 1960s folk might have sounded like if J-Dilla had been born 40 years earlier, and Crazy Over You is a hazy portrait of young love being shared over a 20bag.

Great music, but when held up alongside earlier material it sounds like Bullion is in transition between styles and is still on the journey to his next essential release.

Truly brilliant
