Album Review

"Unbelievable" was so insanely infectious that many who were introduced to EMF by that single went out and purchased Schubert Dip in the hope that the rest of the album would be equally strong. But unfortunately, most of the CD fell short of "Unbelievable"'s excellence. This isn't to say that Schubert Dip is a bad album — far from it, in fact. But weighed against "Unbelievable"'s dizzying infectiousness, distinctly British dance/rock/pop offerings like "Girl of an Age," "Children," and the follow-up single "Lies" are fairly catchy, but nonetheless mildly disappointing. The only song that comes close to packing the punch of "Unbelievable" is the intoxicating "Long Summer Days." For the most part, Schubert Dip is a prime example of an album that is simply decent when it should have been excellent.

Of an age

This album stands strong after fifteen years.'Unbelievable' is the one everyone remembers although the group scored two further hits from the album. Infectious, Uplifting and Pulsating are words that spring to mind. The album rips along and makes you want to play it again, straight away. Excellent tunes and all carried by the enigmatic voice of James Atkin Investigate!

The first album I ever bought.....and I've just bought it again!

Saturday morning in 1991 and armed with my pocket money I head to the shops and buy my first ever album, EMF's Schubert Dip on vinyl. Listening to it again this evening (15 years later) and it still sounds as good as it did when I was thirteen! I might even go and put EMF posters on my wall again!! Great band and great album!!

CHECK THIS OUT!

Best remembered for the international smash "Unbelievable," the British dance-rock quintet EMF formed in October 1989 in Cinderford, England. All five members — vocalist James Atkin, guitarist Ian Dench, keyboardist Derry Brownson, bassist Zachary Foley, and drummer Mark Decloedt — were veterans of the local music scene before founding EMF, whose name supposedly stood for "Epsom Mad Funkers" (although it was widely speculated that the initials instead represented "Ecstasy Mind F*ckers")....
