Body Faucet

Body Faucet

Athens, Ga., is home to the ginormous Reptar, a quartet whose party-ready, dance-inducing, Afropop-flavored music is big (and combustible) enough to set every tiki torch in the greater Athens area alight. Think Vampire Weekend with double the carbonation. Body Faucet is Reptar’s debut full-length, and the band celebrated with a tour supporting Foster the People. (A perfect billing, but we suppose Fun. could have been in there somewhere for true perfection.) The band’s über-upbeat tones (keyboards, twinkly guitars, anthemic arrangements, and gobs of shakers and percussion) create music that's distinctly celebratory. It's hands-in-the-air, libation-swigging stuff that demands it be summertime. “Houseboat Babies” is but one of the grinning moments here, with shiny, rainbow-colored synths, handclaps for days, and call-and-response lyrics shouted in unison—“Can you feel it?” “Yes I can feel it!”—that are sure to make a loud refrain at the band's live shows. There’s a bit of jam-band, tie-dye euphoria, a dash of electro-pop, and hints of the aforementioned polyrhythmic Afropop in this frothy mix. You may want to pace yourself.
