Album Review

Katherine Jenkins, the Welsh soprano and multiple Classical Brits winner, released her fourth album aimed at a pop crossover market, and for the second consecutive time saw an album soar into the Top Five of the album charts. Serenade is rather a misnamed title for the album, as Jenkins hardly serenaded anybody but tackled a set of difficult arias, Chanson Bohème from Bizet (one of her dream roles being to play Carmen live on-stage), O Mio Babbino Caro by Puccini, and Pachelbel's Canon. There is a guest appearance by Kiri Te Kanawa on The Flower Duet, and when she tired of the classics, she included the Mario Lanza favorite "Be My Love," which does lack some of the power coming from a female voice, and covered the pop songs "(Everything I Do) I Do It for You" — sung in Italian as "(Quello Che Faró) Sarà Per Te" with Bryan Adams on guitar — and "The Green Green Grass of Home" with backing vocals by the Treorchy Male Choir. The final songs on the album were of a religious nature, including "The Prayer" and "Dear Lord and Father of Mankind," and the album ends with the old favorite Ave Maria.

First Hand Taster

I absolutely adore this C.D. I was lucky enough to see Katherine perform two of the tracks live yesterday in London. Quello che faro (sara per te) was one song she did and explained that she had asked Bryan Adams especially and more than that he performed guitar on this track too, Pachebels Canon is another of my favourites and so too is Ave Maria along with The Flower Duet but in saying that the other tracks certainly are worth the ear time. I would recommend this to all appreciators of fine classical music. Enjoy

who chooses her repertoire?!

don't get me wrong Katherine has the most beautiful rich tone in her lower register but her voice simply isnt big enough (yet) to sing arias like O mio babino caro. Puccini is for fully fledged voices and by doing so she must be shortening her voice's development. She sings Ave Maria beautifully as she does The Prayer, but i feel that by singing these big puccini arias she is showing a part of her voice that simply has not fully grown, a part she should be saving and working on until it is ready. Stop pressurising her into big things and let her beautiful voice progress naturally!!

Unbelievable

i have so much respect for katherine. she has one of the most amazing voices ever and not only that but she has the courage to go out and sing to the soldiers in afganistan. i absolutely have so much adoration for her, she will be an inspiration to the troops out there and i hope she gives them hope and encouragemnet that they get back to their familys and loved ones as soon as possible.

While still in her mid-twenties, Welsh mezzo-soprano Katherine Jenkins emerged as Britain's all-time best-selling classical artist, although critics charged her success was more a result of physical beauty than musical talent. Born June 29, 1980, in Neath, West Glamorgan, Wales, Jenkins fell under the sway of classical music at age seven, studying piano and singing in her local choir throughout childhood. In 1990, she joined the Royal School of Church Music Cathedral Singers and also served with...
