Introduction to The Funktuary
Back in 2006, longtime collaborators Andreas Jensen and Joe Killington turned Armand van Helden's My My My into a smash for the second time with The Funktuary Radio Mix, which was Radio 1's second most played track of the year and a hit around the world. So what did they do next? The inevitable string of similar remixes and reworkings? No ? instead they started work on their debut album and honed their live show, in preparation for launching The Funktuary as an artist project. The album, which was completed in mid 2009, jumps genres between synth-pop, electro, soul, blues, reggae, and balearic house. The first taster from that is 'Set The Sun Alight', which comes with a lush house remix from 7th District, as well as a chillout remix that has been widely played across sunset bars.
Worth waiting for
I absolutely loved The Funktuarys version of Armand Van Heldens "My My My, and was fairly sceptical to how they would sound on their own without Armands production skills and Tara MacDonalds Diva magic. But I was pleasently surprised to hear that these guys can both sing, write and produce excellent results on their own judging by this track, their other single Wip Electric and the songs on their myspace page. I'm looking so forward to the album. It took them three years.....but I doubt they'll disappoint
