Immense!

I've been a fan of Skindred since seeing them play at 2am at Nottingham Rock City back in April 2000 during an all-nighter. Since then I've been lucky enough to share a stage with them on several occasions while fronting my own band. They've always had such an energy about them and a sound that, while firmly in the rock/metal genre, carries a freshness that must make them the envy of many of their peers. 'Shark Bites and Dog Fights' is a thumping, pulsating and vicious smash n' grab of an album, encapsulating everything about Skindred that makes them one of the most exciting bands the UK has produced in many a year. Lead track 'Stand for Something' is every bit as infectious as you might expect from a band with tracks like 'Rat Race' and 'Pressure' in their locker, while their bombastic cover of Eddy Grant's 'Electric Avenue' is absolutely spot on. If you love music with groove, bounce and dance factor, you cannot go wrong here - boom it up!

I was expecting great… And wasn't disappointed!

I'd been waiting for this album for AGES, and it lived up to the hype i gave it… As I listened to the introduction of "Stand for Something", I knew this was going to be something special. At £6.32 it's really worth it, this band seems to have added a bit more electro to the mix, but still remain an amazing Ragg Metal band… 10/10 =)

Reggae meets metal!

After hearing the mosh-pit starting Nobody, i always thought Skindred were a unique band. It seems i was proven correct with the pulsating and in yer-face Shark Bites and Dog Fights. Kicking off with the fist-raising and rebellious Stand for Something, vocalist Benji Webbe mixes cool ragga vocals with ear-splitting screams and also provides a cool cover of Electric Avenue. One to watch for 2010? You bet!

Biography

Formed: 1998 in Newport, Wales

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

Skindred blend reggae and dancehall with searing thrash and punk influences for a striking take on heavy metal hybridism. The group emerged from Wales in 1998, after the dissolution of vocalist Benji Webbe's previous band, Dub War. Rehearsals for a new project featuring other Dub War veterans didn't work out, but soon Webbe had hooked up with bassist Daniel Pugsley, guitarist Mikey Dee, and drummer Dirty Arya, and Skindred were officially born. The debut LP, Babylon, first appeared in 2002 and 2003,...
