Shockwaves
A great second album thats rewards being played on a loop for a while as then the melodies, lyrics and sweet harmonies kinda seep into your head. Not as instantly hooksome as the debut Sugar and Spite but you can see that the band are honing their craft into a style of their own whilst retaining the best bits of peers such Beth Orton, The Hours and Teenage Fanclub etc.
They are also great live (saw them in Oxford last year).
Wonderful for the most part..........
For anyone who enjoyed the delights of Unkle Bob's debut Sugar and Spite (which was woefully ignored by the mainstream), there is plenty to savour on this follow up. S&S contained some of the best tunes I have heard for a long time and several remain in the top ten of my 'most played' on my I-pod.Shockwaves has been a long time arriving (Why?) but has been well worth the wait. Mr Webster has an uncanny knack of coming up with tunes which you find yourself humming for days afterwards.His lyrics are thoughtful too. Perhaps not as immediate as S&S nevertheless Shockwaves rewards repeated listens as the songs grow more familiar and worthy of your appreciation.My only complaint is the time it has taken for the new album to arrive and the fact that Satellite and Brighter are 'old' songs.
