iTunes Review

Fountains of Wayne excel at power pop. It’s an odd genre, since its practitioners are rarely popular, aside from the occasional hit. “Stacey’s Mom” was this group’s crossover single, but, really, anyone who enjoyed that song would surely find much to like in many Fountains of Wayne tunes. Singers and songwriters Chris Collingwood and Adam Schelsinger are pleasantly clean-cut in their presentation. Guitars are carefully refined. Beats are usually a solid mid-tempo and the vocals represent earnest tunefulness. Their passion has always been tucked inside the songwriting where their topics take weird turns. Their songs feature an “Action Hero”, a “Radio Bar”, a ride on the “Acela”, time spent at “The Summer Place” with “A Dip In the Ocean”. These aren’t guys interested in baring their inner souls, but rather songwriters writing quirky, subtly humorous observational tunes. Bonus Version includes the track “Song of the Passaic”, a tribute to the band’s days in New Jersey.

Customer Reviews

Sheer genius.

Yet another fantastic album from FOW. It is of course becoming a cliche that Fountains of Wayne are one of the most underrated bands around, particularly in the U.K, where they seem to be known only for the song Stacy's Mom by most music fans. Sky Full of Holes carries on like their previous releases with more catchy, thought provoking songs on one album than most bands manage in an entire career. Buy this album, you will not be disappointed.

F O W new album - Sky full of holes

Simply the album of Summer 2011 !!!! A few anthemic songs include Richie and Ruben (just released), Radio Bar, A Summer Place, Cemetery Guns to name a few. Fountains SHOULD be much bigger than they are - if they could just get some UK airtime on a big radio station! I would also LOVE to see them live - if, by any chance, they read this PLEASE come to the UK real soon. Xx

Absolutely cracking!

They have only gone and done it again. This album shows Fountains of Wayne as the great guitar pop writers they are with catchy songs like The Summer Place and A Dip in the Ocean showing the band at their best! Any fan of their previous works will find the album familiar but with enough differences with their other material to keep it very interesting!

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

Although Fountains of Wayne didn't enjoy mainstream attention until the release of "Stacy's Mom" in 2003, the band had already established itself as one of America's strongest power pop acts. Based in New Jersey, the group first appeared in 1996 with a mix of British-influenced pop songs, lo-fi production, and wry lyrics about dead-end jobs and biker boyfriends. Fountains of Wayne expanded their lineup and polished up their sound during the following years, eventually hitting gold with 2003's Welcome...
