Album Review

An audio biography of Grace Jones, produced by Trevor Horn, it's a sonic treat along the lines of Yes's 90125 or Frankie Goes to Hollywood's first album (both produced by Horn). The music ranges from slick R&B runaway grooves to striking audio montages, interrupted occasionally by conversation about Jones's life. Serious ear candy.

Still one of the best ever albums

Slave to the Rhythm Album is just brilliant in its artistic nature. Get one song and extrapalate it out to then use the bass line as the lead guitar for another song; the same bass line, but make it into another song; or something completely whacky. Just like the mid 80s really! I have listened to this album every month since late '85. The good thing with this album here on iTunes is that it is the slightly longer version that came out on Cassette in '85. The 2nd track, 'The Fashion Show' is cut short on the CD version, but this iTunes version of it (6m 26s long) is that one from the cassette, but of course it's now in digital. Perfect! Enjoy it as much as I have....you Trevor Horn-ite. TWJM

Great 80s album

Shes just wonderful! Buy it now guys! P.s. if you just want the song "Slave to the rhythm", on the album it's not track 5, as you may think, but track - 8 "Ladies and Gentlemen: Miss Grace Jones". I have this on vinyl and I've always wondered why!

Agree with the above!

Been after this album since it first came out - but couldn't endure the fact that I would need to buy it on cassette...so now it's here - on the laptop. A sheer piece of engineering genius with a smattering of Frankie!

Grace Jones was one of the more unforgettable characters to emerge from New York City's hedonistic Studio 54 disco scene during the late '70s. Born May 19, 1952, in Kingston, Jamaica, Jones studied theater at Syracuse University before launching a career as a model. Jones' statuesque and flamboyant look proved to be a hit in the New York City nightclub scene, which led to a recording contract with Island Records in 1977. While such disco-based albums as 1977's Portfolio, 1978's Fame, and 1979's Muse...
