Something a bit different....
The long anticipated album from Elliot Minor 'Solaris' is a nice surprise! After hearing the pre-production version of the album the tracks have been superbly mixed/arranged/master, clearly a lot of hard work from many different people have gone into this. The album shows a slight move away from the mainstream (away from the likes of 'Still Figuring Out' off the debut self-titled album. Personal highlights of the album 'I Believe' great song, incredibly well balanced with almost a Fightstar mix down with string collaboration. Discover, Electric High and Solaris are other tunes to look out for as well. You can hear the talent of the musicians in this album and the sound certainly has matured, however there are still classic 'Elliot Minor' trademarks such as the Beach Boy's esque harmonies that will make you smile. Biggest let down for me is the opening track 'The Dancer' which doesn't appear to fit in with the rest of the album not even 'I Believe'. Definitely worth the download the tracks are only 79p (not 99p), have a listen and form your own opinion. Good work, good orchestration and a few gratuitous guitar solos along the way.

I have to say, this album is amazing. Didn't think that Elliot Minor could improve so much from the last album, and they've done just that Personally, my favourite songs are Dancer, Better than the courtroom, and Shiver Listening to this album makes me excited to hear them perform these songs live. Well done Elliot Minor :)
Very Good Album, not as good as their first
I am writing this review whilst i am listening to this album so i am going on first impressions, as people who buy this album will mainly be doing. I am a big Elliot Minor fan and have been looking forward to this album for a long time now, but i have only heard Discover, Solaris and Electric High (in that order as this is the order they have released them to the public).
So lets start off, the first song 'The Dancer' seems a very errie track from the preview, but turns out to be a good (but average) opening to the album, setting the tone for what you would think is going to be a dark album.
'I Believe' is set to be the next single that Elliot Minor are set to release, and although its a good song, its not earth beating and its not going to rock the charts in my opinion, there is better songs on the album.
The album then comes alive with 'Electric High', 'Coming Home' and 'Carry On', 3 great but all different songs in my opinion, Coming home and Carry On are quite similar songs that remind you of the melodic songs in their first album.
'Solaris' is the song that sells it for me, it was the song that i would have bought the album on originally, and although they have made changes to the song that originally have been releases (and in my opinion, the original was better), its still a great song and should have been released
'Better than the Courtroom' is a upbeat song that is good, although seems like an album filler. Good to listen too still, to criticising that.
'All Along' is a slow song that reminds you of 'Silently' in some aspects but doesnt ever reach the same standard, a weak song on the album in my opinion.
Gladly, 'Discover' rekindles that spark that had been lost in the previous song, getting back to what elliot minor are about, and is one of the main strong points on the album.
'Shiver' reminds me very much of the style of music that was on their original album, which is what i loved about the first album, this album would fit right in on the first album and is another strong song in my opinion, although some other fans might dis-agree.
'Tethered' and 'Lets turn this back around' are two strong songs to end the album in my opinion, two songs that remind you what elliot minors genre are about, and not punk which alot of people think. Its not as good of an ending as to the last album having 'Running Away' and 'Last Call to new york City' but stil is a great ending, 'Tethered' reminding you of other songs out there.
Overall, Solaris is a good sophmore album. May i make the emphasis on 'GOOD'. I am a big Elliot Minor fan so i dont want to be like the other fans out there that just write reviews saying 'OMG AMAZING' even though its not.
It is a good album although i expected more from their second outing especially the songs they brought out as singles, its not as mainstream as their first, but its not going to gain them many more fans than what they already have, so in my opinion, its a bit of a backwards step in my opinion concidering the problems they had with the record company etc.
