Album Review
On his fourth solo album, Ian Brown marches on as confidently as ever, mixing mystical aural textures with massively addictive melodies. Album opener "Longsight M13" is as catchy as any song in Brown's back catalog and continues the spacy vibes of his previous full-length effort, Music of the Spheres. "Time Is My Everything" blends Stone Roses ephemera with dusty Spanish horns straight out of an Ennio Morricone spaghetti Western film score, while a goth guitar backdrop on "Destiny or Circumstance" warps the mind like nothing since the Sisters of Mercy. There is sometimes a sense, as on the title track, that Brown has gone a little too far into the stratosphere, if not wacky Kula Shaker territory, but the album's strident catchiness and Brown's wispy, wired voice are grounding forces strong enough to drown out any sense of tackiness. For every step into Middle Eastern exoticism, there's also a step to the dancefloor or a turn to early-'80s electro, such as "Kiss Ya Lips (No I.D.)" or the sprightly, wired background keyboards on "Longsight M13." Stone Roses fans who haven't tracked Brown's musical progress after that band's breakup will find much to love on Solarized, another mini-masterpiece that perfectly balances mood and melody.

the monkey man cometh.
having been a long time stone roses fan i pretty much ignored what Ian Brown was doing after the roses split, untill a mate of mine gave me a copy, i was expecting Browns lyrics to be weak and his voice even weaker, did i ever get it wrong on all counts, this album from the first listen had me hooked and got better with every listen, longsight m13 opens the door on just what Ian Brown is all about his supercool assured persona drips from this album, the wonderful "time is my everything" to "happy ever after" just lifts you to another place. the roses are dead and burried, but the spirit lives on and Ian Brown has it "in buckets" bring it on monkey man bring it on.
Its good...but not spheres
This is a good album...or so i thought when i bought it. I played each track and was pleased, but not impressed. But recently i have found myself listening to it more and more, and the more you do listen to it, you pick up something different. I love 'Time is my everything' when before, i didnt get the hype around it. It is a fine album, stand out tracks include the duet with Noel Gallagher 'Keep what ya got' and 'Longsight M13', while Brown's constance experimentation with new sounds keeps the sound fresh and appealing. It is quite different to the previous works, and it is this difference which makes it another great record of his.
Ian Brown is GOD
Another quality album from Ian B. Fantastic beats and grooves to swank around to. Owned the album since it came out it doesn't get boring. Keep up the good work Brownie.
