His best work

Mature and elegant lyrics beautifully sung this man is such a talent and this album is terrific. I am a fan, I confess but have normally preferred him live. Finally, this album brings the immediate impact of his live performances to a studio album which I sense will be a long term favourite. Here's to Life is stunning.

Beautiful smooth music

I only heard of Ian Shaw when Somewhere towards Love was chosen by Molly Parkin on Desert Island Discs and I was scrabbling for a pen to write down the details. I bought the whole album and love it. The sound is mellow with just piano and vocal, melodies are very simple, and notes are hit and held with none of the acrobatics that pass for musical dexterity. Despite the slow pace of this album it doesn't dip into melancholy.

Technically his voice is not perfect but with this level of interpretation it doesn't need to be.

Only problem now is that I will need to check out his other albums - oh well:)
