iTunes Review

LCD Soundsystem lives in the space where electrodisco bleeds into capitol-R rock and everyone dances gleefully. Sound of Silver finds leader James Murphy and band (more involved as players than they were on LCD’s previous self-titled disc, which was largely a Murphy solo joint) tightening it up in a self-knowing style. From the opening demand to “Get Innocuous!” to the twisted patriotism of “North American Scum,” Murphy proves an ironically raised eyebrow can exist as one point on a full emotional continuum. And, as on the previous album’s lovely “Comfortably Numb” homage “Never As Tired As When I’m Waking Up,” the Friends-era Brian Wilsonisms on “Someone Great” go a long way toward proving that the guy’s doing a lot more than just showing off what a cool album collection he has. Add this one to yours, and it automatically takes its own step up.

Album of the Year

a series of toe-tappingly catchy dance fuelled electro-punk-funk, my favourite album of the last 12 months without a doubt!

Arguably one the best albums made in the last decade

With "This is Happening" now completing what looks like James Murphys' body of work under the pseudonym, most fans of LCD Soundsystem will agree this is and will always be his greatest composition: it is beautifully layered, no doubt tirelessly studio sculpted and most importantly eclectic inside its genres parameters. Get Innocuous! Someone Great and All My Friends are the stand out favourites, however this is not a record which was made for the cheap thrills found in single release, no, this is simply a great album, from start to finish...

Worth Getting, Could Be Better

First off, this album is not as good as their debut. However, people who judge the strength of an album by what went before are fools, so I can safely say that there are a mixture of mostly good songs on here. I just don't find it as clever or overtly "dancey" as the first one. In isolation, though, it's an acceptable album woth getting hold of. If you don't have the two disc debut, you may want to listen to that first. Also check out "Myth Takes" by !!! (chk chk chk) if you like this. Easily as excellent as this!

Biography

Formed: New York, NY

Genre: Electronic

Years Active: '00s, '10s

LCD Soundsystem debuted with "Losing My Edge," a single that became one of the most talked-about indie releases of 2002. A self-effacing spoof of the outrageous p*****g contests that often occur whenever music geeks cross paths ("I was there at the first Can show in Cologne," etc.) laid over a puttering electronic beat with the occasional bursts of discoid clatter, the track was also one of the first released on the DFA label. Several magazines...
