Album Review

Bona fide hitmakers by this point, 3oh!3 don’t mess with their winning formula on Streets of Gold, so let the snotty electro and frat hop spew out of the speakers like last night’s raging kegger. “My First Kiss” is the zenith, with a hook that incorporates kissing noises along with some come-on’s from crunkcore queen and special guest Kesha. “Touchin’ on My” aptly mixes a censor’s bleep into its synth pop melody, and if you crave big, vibrant, well-crafted productions that might as well be Katy Perry singles, both “Déjà Vu” and "Double Vision" fit the bill.

What Happened?

I started listening to 3OH!3 when i was in LA and some dude in a music store pointed me to there EP so i bought it and loved it, then when Want came out i got that sent over from the same shop, both albums are awesome, However (In Chronological order!) once they cracked the UK market, they messed up Starstrukk by letting Katy Perry feature in the re-release, and now this? where are songs like Chokechain and Dont Dance? i want the old 3OH!3 back, Guys and Girls seriously if you liked 3OH!3 around the same time that i did (WELL before they got into this country!) then don't go near this album, and all you teeny boppers out there (i'm 23 not being a hypocrite here people!) who started liking them because they done songs with Katy Perry and Ke$ha, have fun with your new album, because this clearly wasn't made with the original fans at heart!

Pazazz

This is good, but not great. 3OH!3’s first album and EP were outstanding. As an album Streets of Gold is not as good. I think ‘House Party’ was a mistake, the title song ‘Streets of Gold’ is very good; one of the best on the album. A few tracks on here are the party type songs I love them for, but I think this album has been tailored for the mainstream music scene and in doing that I think they may have lost some of their...pazazz. However 3OH!3 are still one of my favourite bands, and if you liked their last album and EP I would recommend getting this one.

Just stop.

I actually can't stand people who call bands like this sellouts. I thought that if you liked a band, you would be supportive of them throughout their career, not jump ship when their songs start getting played on the radio. People need to realise that this is their full time job.

Anyway, I think the album is fab. Songs like I Can Do Anything and Houseparty are nice throwbacks to their first record whilst the rest of the tracks show more of a natural progression.

Highlights of this album are Touchin' On My, R.I.P. and the title track Streets Gold. 4 stars.
