well worth it

Have you ever been to one of those family day out theme park type places? you know the kind of place where you pay too much to get in, queue up too much for the rides and although you try all the big roller coaster rides ultimately you get just as much pleasure and sometimes more from the little known less well advertised ride that has no queue at all? well if the answer to that is yes then you will probably recognise a similar emotion when you discover an album that you had no idea existed and yet you realise that from the first few plays is already going to leave you wanting more.
Well I stumbled across this album almost by accident really. I was on the helloween website and then wondered what the singer was now doing as i had always enjoyed his voice and had secretly hoped he would replace Bruce dickinson in Iron maiden rather than the bloody awful Blaze Bayley. In truth I was dissapointed to see that he has basically recorded some soft rock albums under his own name but also lent his voice to some other projects one of them being place vendome. I watched a video clip of the song "guardian angel" on you tube and was blown away by the voice and the song... downloaded a few more songs.... and then the album. Its worth pointing out that this is not just an album about his voice but there are some seriously good rock songs on here. "streets of fire" "guardian angel" and "completely breathless" are stunning tracks and worth your entrance fee alone yet to complete the whole value for money experiance along comes "set me free" and "believer"
It would be tempting at this point to get very excited and rate this as a masterpiece but there are a few fillers here too, particually "Valerie" and "changes" both of which become just a little too self indulgent with a number of unneeded time changes and the like but as the album gallops towards its close "dancer" reverts to type and gets you back on board. This is not the most challenging album you will ever buy but it is in places utterly fabulous. The first three songs are the roller coaster ride you will not want to get off so buy just those at least but trust me, you will not regret it should you buy the whole album
