A long wait...but so worth it!!!
Having heard "Do You Think You're Special" back in 2003, I was eagerly awaiting the day I could purchase a full debut album by Nio (now knows as Bobby Nio). I'm glad that 7 years later, I've been able to do just that.
This album doesn't disappoint at all. From the ethereal sounds of the 'Sumadis Intro' to the staggered beat of a retrospective 'Wot Is This', this immaculately crafted debut screams innovation with all of its might. Nio's haunting harmonics on 'Paranoid' accent the unsettling topic and rolling percussion to set the tone for a truly raw offering by the London-based writer and vocalist. Cuts such as 'Lies' and 'I Do Me' echo the ever-present aura of gritty truth that runs through the veins of the album. Tongue-in-cheek 'Rago' offers a lighter side to the record, whilst retaining the influences of Bobby Nio's musical youth. These influences are revisited primarily in the Sticky-produced 'Music Ain't Dead', in which Nio references the formative effect that UK Garage music has had on his sound.
With each song on 'Sumadis' successfully raising the bar for the next, this is a must-have album for any fan of cutting-edge mainstream music.
I thoroughly look forward to the release of Bobby Nio's mixtape "Pimp My Song UK" on March 1st, but until then, this is the fix I've been waiting for.
BUY IT!
