Candyfloss Indie Pop?

One of the most innovative and unusual records I've heard in a long time. There's not alot to be done that's original in these days of commercial safety first and manufactured bubblegum muzak but this oddball twosome from Peterborough (the spiritual heartbeat of rock 'n roll remember...) have achieved the seemingly impossible.

Many of the songs seem built from kids toys and plastic intruments but each and every one is a carefully crafted melody with often dark, sometimes amusing lyrics that we can all relate to. I can hear echoes of Ben Gibbard (Death Cab), Kings Of Convenience and The Shins but the sound is completely their own and defies a pigeon hole.

Amongst the indie pop gems there are some deeply wonderful songs that deserve modern classic status. 'Stars' and 'Singapore' spring to mind then there's the iron fist in a velvet glove offerings like 'We're All Gonna Die' and 'The Sunshine Song'.

I find it hard to give any records a rating of 5 stars because that puts them on a par with the stuff I grew up listening to like The Smiths but this collection of songs deserves recognition for refusing to follow any formula and producing something truly special.

whimsy pop? by Dave

please, please give this a listen! have to agree with all of the only other review. Having been around the block a few times,it"s hard to find something that grabs your attention! Both melodic and oddball, well worth a try

Bloody fantastic!

I gave this a listen as they are supporting Darren Hayes at New Year. I knew nothing about them but can't stop playing the album. At first I thought it sounded a bit twee but give it a fee listens and the songs are well crafted, catchy and the lyrics are darker than the songs instruments suggest. One of the best collections of songs I've heard for ages.
