One Of The Best Lo-Fi Releases Of the Year?

For me as a late thirtysomething watching the rise, fall and then rise of electronic music has been riveting. The last year and a half has been especially exciting with top drawer releases from Hot Chip, Bonobo, Four Tet and Pantha Du Prince to name but a few - and now with this release from Daniel Victor Snaith aka Caribou, we may just have the soundtrack of the early summer in place. The first track Odessa is the standout track for me - think of Royksopp meets 90's house and it is truely mesmerising, though the rest of the album falls very neatly and closely behind it in terms of quality. Hannibal deserves a mention in dispatches also, but as I say the whole album is a journey encompassing just about every facet of modern electronica culture.

Dive in

If you like your electronic music intelligent and orginal then give this a listen. Some great melodies, ideas and grooves on show. There's been some good stuff this year in this genre, Also worth checking out is Pete Lunn's 'Everything is Number' album, Chew Lips and of course Hot Chip's latest.

Wow wow wow.

I love this. When the stunning 'Odessa' was realised early I anticipated this album being the soundtrack of my summer at least. An Amazing, mind boggling atmosphere is in place throughout this most intelligently and equally impressive piece of work.

After moving to London, he released an excellent second album, Up in Flames (2003), that saw him become a darling of critics. One year later, however, Snaith was...
