iTunes Review

As its title implies, Katy Perry’s second album is the musical equivalent of a young teenaged girl’s dream of boys and sunshine, and California days and nights where the ocean water kisses the sky. The beats kick into the ‘80s and hint at techno with songwriters Dr. Luke, Max Martin, Stargate and Tricky Stewart, jumpstarting the hooks that come to a head with the Snoop Dogg-featured “California Gurls” and its Jane-meets-Tarzan beach party “whoas”. It’s the synthetic sound of the shopping mall: air-conditioned beats and keyboard strobe lights working their way through the producer’s hall of mirrors. Comparisons to Gwen Stefani and Britney Spears seem fair, considering the complete embracement of shiny, happy pop with the occasional innocence-gone-bad moment (“Peacock”). Religious suggestions (“Who Am I Living For?”) are overwhelmed by boy-crazy love (“Teenage Dream”, “Hummingbird Heartbeat” and the matching tattoos of “The One That Got Away”) but before you think Perry’s living out the Hollywood Dream, she lets us know things are “Not Like the Movies”.

A Sweet Dream!

One of the Boys was a great album, but Teenage Dream is a masterpiece in comparison. Lead track California Gurls was the safe choice for the lead single, but there are better tracks to be found here.

Even though the album is very well worth the full purchase, MUST download tracks and highlights are Peacock (can easily see a future #1 with this), E.T, Firework and title track Teenage Dream.

But for me, the best of Teenage Dream is Not Like The Movies. Katy really shows off her voice here, and gives reason to why she records music in the first place! For me its her best song, but I know there will be those who disagree!

Awesome album, well done Katy!

Everyone's Teenage Dream

This brilliant album mixes Katy's brilliant vocals with Lyrics that you can't help but sing along to. No only has she provided this years summer anthems with "California Gurls" and "Teenage Dream" but she brings brilliant ballads such as "Pearl" and you won't be able to stop listening to "Firework", "Last Friday Night" and "Peacock". A must buy, plus you get all of the song Katy has colaborated on this year with the deluxe edition. Amazing album and well deserving of a number one album spot this year!

Pop at it's worst.

All the songs follow a similar tune. I hated California Gurls... but the rest of the album is a million times worse. Repetitive pop rubbish.
