Great stuff
I remember the Rhythm Sisters from he early gigs in Leeds, York, Halifax etc - great music, dramatic lighting, Bill Byford claiming to be the girls half brother (well, why not!). Here they are, 20 years or so on with another clutch of great tracks. Roundhay Pier lives on. Fantastic!!!
A great reprise from The Rhythm Sisters
It is two decades since I last bought a Rhythm Sisters album - their excellent Road to Roundhay Pier - so I clicked the 'Buy Album' button with a mixture of anticipation and trepidation. I've been listening non-stop for a week now, and I have to say this is every inch a worthy follow up, and worth waiting 20 years for. The Laek sisters are older and wiser, but still as punchy and full of feist as they were when they first got our attention. The album is crammed full of first-listen hits, and there are certain tracks I can't stop whistling, singing or humming. The humour is still there, even when it has a bitter edge (Watch With Mother, Pocket Hand-Grenade), and the fantastic accompaniment complements the vocal harmonies perfectly. Welcome back!
