long time waiting, well worth the wait
a great album, songs beautifully sung well written and very thought invoking. an astounding voice. first heard anna nearly 3 years ago singin in cafe rouge on new years eve, cancelled the evening plans and sat and listened all night. haunting voice and a massive talent. you have to listen to this album and voice it is truly a star of the future if not now.
Rips up the "folk pop" rules...and re-writes them...and so much better..oh and THAT voice....
Just when X-factor had us all with our heads in our hands about how real talent was ever going to break through again, this young woman from Essex arrives to make our lives that little bit better, in that manner that truly exceptional music can.
The lyrics are heartfelt and touching, the arrangements rich and memorable and the melodies are bright and sweet. And the voice. Her voice soars high and breaks exquisitely, with a stunning, true tone, it has a little catch but above all it is strong, flawless and laced with the emotion of the songs. Anna's voice is exceptional and authentically English.
Great songs, melodies and settings, allied to a truly remarkable voice draw comparisons with artists, both diverse and legendary. Joni Mitchell, Alanis Morisette, Kates Nash and Rusby, Dido - on this basis Anna Leddra Chapman will draw comparisons with all of them and many others.
If Tayler Swift is the accesible and modern voice of American Country, then this 20 year old woman is the very same for English Folk, effortlessly making songs and ballads about people's lives, sung in an English accent, seem somehow more relevant than anything else out there. There are people for whom the idea of "folk pop" is far from something that would normally appeal - this album and this artist will change your mind.
Heard some great albums across many genres this year. This one tops the lot.
Great debut album
Heard "Story" in the car and thought it very good. Could not obtain the song as it not been released and had never heard of the artist.Now the CD is available and it is all excellent with Story and Edie as stand out tracks but all are worth listening to.Leddra has a great voice and it appears a great songwriting talent
