Tintin Soundtrack

Just when you think Williams is getting into a rut again ( and he does, think Harry Potter etc....), he goes and whacks you in the eye with another stunner !! Williams can be so formulaic sometimes, but this just jumps out at you. Whilst there are similarities with some other previous works ( Catch me if you Can, Indiana Jones etc ), the whole thing works remarkably well, and especially with the movie itself. This serves as a brilliant reminder of a brilliant film, go see and go buy !!

Its a brilliant film- but where is the classic "John Williams"?

This is an excellent predominantly jazz score (belgian jazz maybe?), but it lacks a huge john williams theme- like Indiana Jones or Jurassic Park had. Shame, but its still great music especially the first track and "Sir Francis and the Unicorn" with its haunting horn line.

Williams has captured the soul of Tintin

Contrary to any negative remarks, bear in mind that Tintin IS Belgian. And the influence portrayed in this score is fantastic.

Williams retreats to a more "Harry Potter-ish" feel with Snowy's Theme which is pretty much reprised throughout the score begging the question whether this is actually the main theme. (It's nice and it grows on you)

For a good laugh, listen to the entire track of "Presenting Bianca Castafiore", especially if you are famaliar with the character.

I always dreamt of having John Williams compose a score to Tintin if they ever made a movie. Ironically, i always dreamt of Steven Spielberg directing it too. I guess my dream came true. :)

If you are a John Williams fan, give this a definate listen. If you are not certain, watch the movie and take it from there. I usually find that by watching the movie first, it naturally complements the music & vice versa to give you a clearer perception of an opinion to the score.

Most scores nowadays fail to capture the movie's essence, however I feel Williams created something special here.

Herge would be proud!
