1 star for Tom Waits! That just shouldn't happen.

I can unfortunately give only 5 stars for Tom, he should get more. I've listened to him for years and love the albums he released with Asylum. There are songs here that are nothing short of beautiful. His voice is gritty and atmospheric. That's all part of the experience. He's a real musician. He doesn't use voice doohickies to make him sound 'good'. This is a great album to get you started with Tom Waits. It may not suit all the boy band fans pretending to be into music. This is real music for proper music fans.

Tom Traubert Revisited

This the type of album that makes you yearn for vinyl--the clarity of the mp3 format just seems wrong for grittiness of the early Tom Waits---Not a weak track here spanning 7 albums during his Asylum career Songs for late night listening

I never talk to strangers either, but in this case.......

....I just have to! I agree with the last reviewer, how can someone give 1 star to Tom Waits.... The talent and vocal range of this guy is amazing! His talents as a songwriter and performer are legend. His styles change, his vocals change. No one singer I can think of can do this as well as he! Ok Bob Dylan writes great music but his nasal voice stinks! so his songs are best sung by others. Please dont miss the chance to own some REAL sung from the heart angst right now, this is like music by John Steinbeck, its real, grity and hard. Honest too, far more than most 'real' singers I could mention....

In the 1970s, Tom Waits combined a lyrical focus on desperate, low-life characters with a persona that seemed to embody the same lifestyle, which he sang about in a raspy, gravelly voice. From the '80s on, his work became increasingly theatrical as he moved into acting and composing. Growing up in Southern California, Waits attracted the attention of manager Herb Cohen, who also handled Frank Zappa, and was signed by him at the beginning of the 1970s, resulting in the material later released as The...
