I think some people are realy missing the point here, this is a great album, its not to be placed in the 70s or in todays fashion of over produced plastic glossy productions, this album could have been done in the 60s or in the future for that matter, its good musicans producing a sound that feels like its coming from mother Earth not Planet Rock. its a 10/10 from me davidbahar.com. I for one am glad they stayed true to the form of ( Good Songs dont need s**t loads of production) as a music producer i know the hardest thing of all, is to keep a song in its basic form yet make it interesting, i realy respect what Midlake are doing here. THIS ALBUM IS GOING TO STAND THE TEST OF TIME, its not in or out of fashion, its just great music.

Warms the soul

I have been looking forward to this album for a long time and am not disappointed. It is so refreshing to hear an album that hasn't been compressed to within an inch of its life and the dynamics of the music really give you something to listen for on every listen.

The music feels so natural and warm and I wholeheartedly agree with a previous reviewer who stated that this album will stand the test of time simply because it is timeless. It doesn't belong to 2010 and therefore can never age disgracefully.

I hope that this album gets the success and recognition it deserves so that record labels and agents can begin to see that truly great music doesn't need to be edited, pro-tooled, compressed and FX'd to death to be a success.

I will be very surprised if this isn't one of the albums of 2010.

A band growing...beautifully.

The music press at large seem preoccupied with unhelpful comparisons...stop the Van Occupanther references, it's annoying. I for one celebrate Midlake for not trying to recreate that, admittedly stunning, album. The Courage of Others is a beautifully written, slow burning masterpiece written not for this time, but oh-so timely in this bland, plastic, Cowell-ised musical landscape. Bravo...album of the year is already here!!!
