a great start

65daysofstatic clearly define their sound in this impressive debut. Taking aspects of other post rock outfits (Mogwai, Explosions in the Sky) and adding new vitality and aggression this album fires on all cylinders. Tracks 'Retreat! Retreat!', 'Install a Beak in the Heart...' and 'Aren't we all running?' are one's to look out for.

A little misleading for me...

I was introduced to 65daysofstatic at a science lecture where a space shuttle video was shown. The song playing over the vid was the song 'Retreat! Retreat!'. I was incredibly moved by the video due, in large part to the music, which was amazingly uplifting and inspiring. I wanted more of the same when I searched for the band immediately upon returning home. What I've found is that very few songs are even close to 'Retreat! Retreat!' in terms of scope or inspiration. Almost all of the other songs are chaotic, unstructured and almost painful to listen to. I badly wanted to love this band and I thought that my first experience of them could not be isolated. I've listened to two other albums and they too give me a headache for the most part. Maybe the chaos and the post-rock progressive tone is the draw for others, but I simply want to be moved by what I listen to and so far, only one song has achieved this.
