iTunes Review

In the tradition of his heroes The Smiths and The Jam, Noel Gallagher always considered Oasis a singles band, and like those two bands, Oasis are famous for relegating some of their best material to B-sides. While The Masterplan contains none of the band’s best-known songs, it ranks with Definitely Maybe and (What’s the Story) Morning Glory as one of the band’s best listens. “Acquiesce”, “Listen Up”, and “Fade Away” provide a nostalgic rush on par with classics like “Rock’n’Roll Star” and “Supersonic”, while “The Masterplan”, “Stay Young”, and “Rockin’ Chair” are among the band’s most unabashedly sweet songs. Perhaps the greatest strength of The Masterplan is its easygoing feel. With the release of Be Here Now in 1997, Oasis entered a period where pressure for them to live up to their reputation as the biggest band in the world resulted in albums that were overlabored. The Masterplan shows the band at its most fun, enjoying a period when pop songs came easily to them and making rock’n’roll was as easy as plugging in a guitar.

Would you B-elieve it

Not many artists could boast a B side collection like this, simply superb, underated and more than likely unknown to a world of music fans who know Oasis for Wonderwall amongst others. These songs have the vibe that they should have been A sides, from the brilliant opener, and regular on live acts, Acquiesce, right the way through to The Masterplan, which is without doubt Noel's best piece of work. This is a hell of a lot better than you might think.

Best Oasis Album

You may think that The first two Oasis albums are the best but this album is much much better all of the songs on it could of easily been A sides and probably should of been. Buy this album now its a must have for any Oasis fan

Definitely definitely

Rough, raw, ballsy, and beautifully underproduced. This is exactly what Oasis are/were/should be all about. This is the third time I've bought this album. I wish Noel and Liam would listen to this and realise just what they are best at doing. From the gutsy 'Listen up', through angst ridden 'Rocking Chair' to the haunting 'Masterplan' and everything inbetween. Awesome.

Biography

Formed: 1993 in Manchester, England

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '90s, '00s

Oasis shot from obscurity to stardom in 1994, becoming one of Britain's most popular and critically acclaimed bands of the decade in the process. Along with Blur and Suede, they were responsible for returning British guitar pop to the top of the charts. Led by guitarist/songwriter Noel Gallagher, the Manchester quintet adopted the rough, thuggish image of the Stones and the Who, crossed it with "Beatlesque" melodies and hooks, injected distinctly British lyrical themes and song structures like the...
