Album Review

The Memory of Trees is every bit as hushed and lovely as Enya's best work. The beautiful and brooding Celtic melodies she brought with her from her earlier work with Clannad are still the primary raw materials, and her skillful use of them is still the main thing that sets her apart from the new age pack. She also has a truly lovely voice, and there's no point trying to resist the gentle charm of "China Roses" and the incantatory power of "Anywhere Is."

Enya's Best

This album for me is her best ever. I'd say the best songs are Tea House Moon, Hope Has A Place and Anywhere Is. 1 The Memory Of Trees A beautiful instrumental to start this album a calm and relaxing piece. 2 Anywhere Is An upbeat piece full of amazing lyrics e.g. the shells upon the warm sands have taken form their own lands. My Favourite song throughout the whole album full of life and mystery. 3 Pax Deorum Sounds like a tribal dance with a lot of feeling. 4 Athair Ar Neamh A slow song showing how amazing her voice is with the high notes. 5 From Where I Am Her most enchanting piano piece filled with feeling. 6 China Roses One of the songs that did made this album popular but for me not one of her best but still beuatiful. 7 Hope Has A Place This song is made up of very witty lyrics and set to a fanatastic backround. 8 Tea House Moon This song reminds me of a Japanese Garden With people sitting round a table drinking tea. Enchanting 9 Once You Had Gold Beautiful full of witty lyrics again another special vocal perfromance 10 La Sonadora A song which reminds me of church music. Fantastic 11 On My Way Home Lively, enchanting and overall fantastic ending.

I forgot.....

Not so bad really, but does pale beside the impactof "The Celts". Buy that album first, then buy the best of , and if you are still intrigued, then buy this one. There is room in the world for a lttle melllow chill out music, even if it is a bit bland sometimes.

With her blend of folk melodies, synthesized backdrops, and classical motifs, Enya created a distinctive style that more closely resembled new age than the folk and Celtic music that provided her initial influences. Enya is from Gweedore, County Donegal, Ireland, which she left in 1980 to join the Irish band Clannad, the group that already featured her older brothers and sisters. She stayed with Clannad for two years, then left, hooking up with producer Nicky Ryan and lyricist Roma Ryan, with whom...
