Wonderful tribute captures the spirit of The Clash
This is a beautiful album with a rootsy, earthy flavour that is as full of nuggets as the original SANDINISTA! was. The Clash always was a band that wore its influences on its sleeve. Here, artists of various genres explore those influences, making for an album that fills a couple of days of listening time. Too much to take in one go (like the original.) Go for a dip. Swim around. See what you find. For me, Stew's take on BROADWAY stands out. As does Ethan Lipton's version of CORNER SOUL. So, too, does The Lothars' mad version of THE CALL UP, complete with theremin. Strummer would have loved it, its scale, its madness. A wonderful curate's egg.
