... simply the best introduction
Together with the earlier "The Voice Of Lightness" covering the years 1961-1977, this Vol. 2 for 1977-1993 is simply the best introduction to Tabu Ley Rochereau you could hope for. If I'm honest, before coming to these albums, I think I'd probably been a bit snooty about Tabu Ley. I figured he didn't have the same raw energy as his friendly rival, Franco. And perhaps he didn't. But what these albums convinced me of was his ability to write and perform fabulous pop songs, whether the 3 minute jewels of his earlier years, or the longer, relaxed work-outs of his later, there's always a charm and a hook just waiting to lift you up. And if you download the whole album you get a PDF booklet with good photos and some of the best text I've ever read about this artist and his context? Recommended without reservation.
